Hints and Tips

bulletSee an Accountant right at the start - most including us wont charge you for an initial meeting so what have you got to lose !Decide your style of trading Limited Company, Sole Trader or Partnership
bulletRegister with Inland Revenue and DSS authorities
bulletSee if you need to be VAT Registered or if it would help you to be.
bulletOpen a separate bank account for all your business transactions
bulletMake a Business Plan complete with forecasts and Cashflow Projections
bulletSet realistic Goals and plan carefully to reach them.
bulletMake sure you know how to keep your books either manually or with a computer package such as Sole-Trader , Sage or Quickbooks
bulletKeep all your Invoices and receipts - safely and in order.
bulletIf you are employing anyone Register for PAYE and start a Payroll
bulletCheck with your local council if you need Planning permission to operate the business from the premises you have in mind
bulletTake out adequate Insurance cover.. If you employ anyone this is a legal must !
bulletIf you are operating a Motor Vehicle through the business take advice from your Accountant how this should be done.. It could end up costing you a small fortune if you get it wrong !
bulletCheck other authorities for your chosen industry to see what other regulations you need to adhere to. Open Government gives a list of all official government and local councils
